Bike & Ride on Transit

All Metrorail stations and Metrobus Park & Ride lots are equipped with bicycle racks.

BikeLids, enabling you to secure your bike using your own padlock and additionally offering covered protection, are available free on a first-come, first-served basis at Metrorail stations and other locations.

On Metrobus

• Buses are equipped with bicycle racks that are attached to the front of the bus. If your bus arrives with the rack occupied, missing, or out of service, please wait for the next bus.

• Prepare your bike for loading by removing loose items before the bus arrives.

• Wait until the bus comes to a complete stop before attempting to mount your bicycle on the rack.

• To mount your bicycle on the rack, squeeze the silver rack handle up to release the latch. Carefully lower the rack.

• Place your bicycle wheels into the slots labeled “front” and “rear.” If yours is the first bike on the rack, mount it in the slots nearest to the bus.

• To secure the bike, raise the support arm over the front wheel as far as possible. Be sure the arm rests on the tire, not the fender.

• Once you have secured your bicycle, board the bus and pay your fare with cash or by tapping your loaded EASY Card or EASY Ticket.

• Sit or stand near the front of the bus to watch your bicycle during your trip.

• When you arrive at your destination, tell the bus operator you want to remove your bicycle from the rack before exiting the bus through the front door.

• To unload, release the support arm and lift the bicycle from the rack. If the rack is empty, squeeze the silver handle to return the rack to the upright or closed position.

On Metrorail

• Enter the station by tapping your loaded EASY Card or EASY Ticket at the wheelchair-accessible gate.

• Always use the elevator to get to and from the platform level.

• Wait for the train away from the platform’s yellow-tiled edge.

• Walk your bike into any Metrorail car.

• Use the designated areas for bike and luggage storage.

• Do not place or store your bicycle in the spaces reserved for passengers in wheelchairs.

• Allow passengers without bicycles to exit the train first.

On Metromover

• Always use the elevator to get to and from the platform level.

• Wait for the Metromover car away from the platform’s yellow-tiled edge.

• Allow passengers without bicycles to exit the car first.

On Tri-Rail

Bicycles are permitted on all Tri-Rail trains, and bike racks and lockers are available at all stations. Contact Tri-Rail customer service at 800-TRI-RAIL (874-7245) or visit Tri-Rail for more information.

Motorized Scooters

The following information is being provided as guidance for those patrons wishing to bring motorized scooters onto all three modes of transportation operated by the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) including Metrorail, Metromover and Metrobus.

A motorized scooter is defined by Florida Statute 316.003(82) as: “Any vehicle not having a seat or saddle for the use of the rider, designed to travel on not more than three wheels, and not capable of propelling the vehicle at a speed greater than 30 miles per hour on level ground.”

Motorized scooters may be carried/walked onto DTPW property and DTPW vehicles including Metrorail, Metromover and Metrobus, provided that the following parameters are met:

• Commercial motorized scooters (those which are rented and not personally owned) are prohibited from all transit vehicles, all Metrorail and Metromover stations, and all bus shelters.
• Motorized scooters may only be battery powered.
• Fuel-powered scooters are NOT permitted on any DTPW vehicles.
• Motorized scooters must be folded, if designed to do so, and safely stowed at all times while on Metrorail, Metromover or Metrobus vehicles and must not block aisles, doors, occupy patron seating or interfere with other patrons or otherwise cause a tripping hazard.
• Motorized scooters must be switched “off” while on-board transit vehicles, within stations or bus terminals Motorized scooters must be covered if wet or dirty Motorized scooters shall not be operated within DTPW vehicles, stations. bus terminals or bus passenger shelters.
• Motorized scooters and riders must abide by all applicable federal, state and local codes, rules and regulations.

Failure to abide with the above parameters may result in a prohibition of transit services.
